<International Circulation>: Speaking to these chapters, you mentioned grass roots movements and governing bodies in your email. Are there any specific innovations that you are seeing on a grass roots level that you hope to implement on a broader scale?
Dr. Harold: Earlier, I helped develop the predecessor for chapters, the International Twinning Program. In the beginning, this program helped link a state chapter in the United States with an international cardiac society for the purpose of educational exchanged. The first project developed involved an exchange between the California chapter of the ACC and the British Cardiovascular Society. In that relationship, we had shared lectureships and our group would travel the UK for their annual meeting and their leadership would travel to ours. We typically have over 500 participants has been going on for over six years. We have a created a shared fellowship between Cedars Sinai and the Royal Brompton in England. We have had several fellows from England spend time in California at various institutions for training in advanced imaging. The collaboration has been very successful and has led to the early chapters, which is the Great Britian and Ireland chapter. For the most part, this is done in cooperation with the parent society. In Britain, the Great Britain and Ireland Chapter was a collaboration between the ACC and the Irish Cardiac Society and the British Cardiovascular Society. These international collaborations are becoming increasingly important because we begin to hear about what is happening in various parts of the world and we can share best practices and introduce some of our registries. I just came back forma visit to Saudi Arabia at the Gulf Heart Meeting. We had a lot of shared collaboration and had a signing ceremony where our patient portal will be translated into Arabic. As written Arabic is homogenous throughout the Arab world, this will become a useful tool for patients in many countries. There has been an explosion of CV disease in the gulf region.
<International Circulation>: Just to clarify, what is being exchanged between these chapters and governing bodies?
Dr Harold: The Twinning Program is primarily educational exchange. I am going to London to speak at the British CV Society. There leadership s coming to our chapter ins September to give feature lectures. For example, one of the clinical directors of NICE, which loots at quality and distribution of resources, came to speak at Cedars Sinai. We have named lectures, such as the Sir Roger Boyle, who was the head of Cedar’s heart services four years ago. I had the opportunity to hear a presentation from his office in the House of Commons on the national Stroke strategy. Other twinning relationships exist between other societies. From the chapter point of view, we have 27 chapters…
